Lord of the Rings
Many of us these days have had so much exposure to the western world and the movies that are made. With so much of globalization and with English movies releasing simultaneously here in India and in the US, it is very hard not to draw comparisons. I for one have many times said that Hollywood produces movies like Lord of the Rings and we still make dappanguthu songs. After some thoughts and reading a few articles on the Internet, I realized how wrong I was to make a comparison.
We expect someone to come out of the blue in a place like Chennai and make a movie like Lord of the Rings. Now why would someone want to do such a thing? If I were asked to make such a movie, I would laugh back at that person. Not because I lack the confidence and the mettle, but simply because the audience for such a movie in India is limited. Instead there have been greats like AP Nagarajan who have made movies like Thiruvilayadal. Now this is a movie no technology or any Hollywood or even Indian director can re-create.
We have had and are still having our share of good and great movies. I have learnt over the last few weeks not to get lost in comparing the “Godfather” with Nayakan. Nayakan and Godfather have their own pluses and minuses and have been made for different audiences. Am just glad am in a position to enjoy both.

This is my first post and look for this space to go back in time and review some great movies.
